STATE OFFICIALS TO ANNOUNCE IMPLEMENTATION OF SILVER ALERT PLAN FOR MISSING SENIORS WITH COGNITIVE DISORDERS

(Silver Spring, MD) – State Police Superintendent Colonel Terrence Sheridan will be joined by Delegate Benjamin Kramer, Senator Rona Kramer, Department of Human Resources Secretary Brenda Donald, MEMA Director Richard Muth, and other officials, as well as residents of the state’s largest senior community, to unveil Maryland’s new “Silver Alert” plan.

The new notification system for critically missing seniors* with cognitive disorders becomes law October 1st.

Just went for coffee...

Just went for coffee...

*Critically missing? What could that possibly mean? I think “missing” by definition is critical, otherwise it’s just “out for the day.” AND cognitive disorders?

Me: My grandmother’s missing

Officer: Did she have Alzheimer’s Disease?

Me: No.

Officer: Sorry, wrong office.

Event displays will include a Maryland State Police bloodhound team* that would be part of a search for a critically missing senior, as well as a State Highway Administration message board representing the roadway signs that will be used to alert motorists.

*I used to work at a pizza place that was hit by a serial armed robber. The police brought out the bloodhound in an effort to get right on his trail. The animal went immediately for the garbage can. Insert old folks eat dog food joke here.

The event will be held at Leisure World,* home to thousands of Maryland’s senior citizens, some of whom are expected to attend the event.

*This is almost too much. Who has the stones to name a retirement community Leisure World? Maybe the developer was a struggling satirist. I’ll bet each home comes with a new wardrobe so the residents can look the part. They’re totally filming a Truman Show-type documentary there.
